Is it dangerous to swallow gum?

Swallowing gum is usually not dangerous and in most cases passes through the digestive tract without problems. Contrary to rumors, chewing gum does not stay in the stomach for years. The human digestive system is not capable of completely digesting chewing gum, but it does expel it from the body along with other indigestible substances.

However, frequent or large amounts of chewing gum, especially in children, can cause gastrointestinal blockage and problems. Therefore, it is best to throw away chewed gum and avoid swallowing it.
